ABOUT OUR GENDER IDENTITY TRAINING
Gender identity refers to the way we describe the gender someone has. In this session we’ll explore what that means, the terms you’ll often hear, the current outlook for trans people, and start to look at the experiences of people who identify as trans and non-binary.
Audience & Delivery
This session is designed for people who are considered ‘newbies’ to LGBTQ+ inclusion and would like to know the very basics about gender identity.
Up to 50 attendees delivered via google meets.
60 minute session including Q&A
Session Goals
- All attendees leave understanding basic terminology
- All attendees understand who people with diverse orientations are and their lived experiences
Training Agenda
- Explaining terminology.
- The difference between gender identity, gender expression, and biological sex.
- The difference between orientations & gender identity.
- Experiences of people with diverse gender identities.
OUR TRAINING ETHOS
At Blossom LGBT CIC we’ve built our training in collaboration with industry leaders in LGBTQ+ inclusion. This includes some of the biggest names in modern day LGBTQ+ equality movements, trend setters in LGBTQ+ workplace inclusivity, and most importantly every day LGBTQ+ people. Each of our training packages centres around one very simple question “What would make LGBTQ+ workplace lives better?” and we go from there.
One of our three core values at Blossom LGBT CIC is inclusivity – That includes including people who are new on their journey. We understand that not everyone can be experts in LGBTQ+ inclusion, that’s why we dedicate our professional lives to it! We’ll never make you feel silly or less if you don’t understand something or can’t quite wrap your head around a concept – We’re here to help you do that. That being said, we never tolerate hate or discrimination fuelled comments (including anti-lgbtq+ dog whistles or teasing of people trying to learn) within our training and always reserve the right to remove attendees who create a negative learning environment.
We can do more than just train you!
Our training packages sometimes point out that workplaces aren’t necessarily doing everything they can to develop LGBTQ+ inclusive cultures. That can seem a little bit scary or concerning but don’t worry – We’ve got your back! We can provide tailored support for your workplace to create inclusive cultures including 1-2-1 support, content reviews, design & implementation, or full LGBTQ+ Inclusion audits. Looking for ongoing training?
It’s really important that LGBTQ+ knowledge and learning isn’t a one off thing! By consistently running LGBTQ+ inclusion courses, or embedding LGBTQ+ inclusion within your onboarding processes, you can work towards creating a workplace culture that truly understands ands values the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion at every level. We can create bespoke agreements which may include the annual delivery of training, multiple engagements across a year, or supporting you to develop an inclusive induction process.
