2024 was a transformative year for us, as we continued to champion the rights, dignity, and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ young adults. Through our mentoring programme, 85% of our mentees achieved a significant milestone by beginning to earn the Real Living Wage for the first time, helping to relieve poverty and enhance financial stability for those most in need. Alongside this, 90% of our audience reported feeling more connected to their community, demonstrating the impact of our work in reducing social exclusion and fostering a sense of belonging.
Our training programmes made strides in promoting equality and diversity, with 75% of participants leaving sessions equipped with actionable steps to further inclusion in their workplaces and communities. These outcomes reflect the growing awareness and commitment to creating environments where LGBTQIA+ young adults can thrive.
Well-being also remained central to our mission, acknowledging our approach to preventing and relieving poverty has got to be holistic. All our service users—100%—reported improvements in their overall well-being, a testament to the holistic support provided through our workshops, mentoring, and peer-to-peer spaces. Whether it was through confidence-building exercises, practical employability resources, or simply having a safe space to share experiences, our services created tangible positive change.
Looking beyond individual impacts, our research and advocacy efforts continued to shine a light on systemic barriers faced by LGBTQIA+ young adults. By collating and analysing data from our programmes and casework, we identified that 6 in 10 young LGBTQIA+ people felt their identity made them ill-equipped to begin working once they left education, which has informed not only our own strategies but also the broader conversations around inclusion and equity.
In 2024, we also strengthened our community-focused initiatives. Weekly social spaces offered access to technology, clothing for interviews, and personalized guidance, directly addressing immediate barriers to employment. These spaces also nurtured resilience and peer connections, creating supportive networks that empower individuals to take steps toward a brighter future. Additionally, our arts and heritage workshops celebrated the richness of LGBTQIA+ culture, fostering pride and connection within the community.
